Hillary Diane Rodham Clinton was born on October 26, 1947 in Chicago, Illinois. She was the first lady from 1993 to 2001. She then served as a U.S. senator from 2001 to 2009. Clinton was elected the U.S. Senate in 2001 and became the only American first lady to hold national office. Shortly after Obama became president, he nominated Hillary Clinton as secretary of state. She was officially approved by the Senate as secretary of state on January 21, 2009 and serves in that position until 2013. Hillary Clinton then announced her plans to run for the U.S presidency in the spring of 2015. Now, Clinton is the leader of the New Directions political party.
Why Clinton?
Hillary Clinton was chosen as the leader of the New Directions party because she shares the same beliefs. Being a women's rights activist, Clinton believes that abortion should remain legal but should be safe and rare. She has spent many years in attempt to make abortion as rare as possible by creating other options for women. She wants to gain control over the amount of people who have guns on their person. She was to rid America of the assumption that anyone can have a gun anywhere, anytime. In addition, she also believes that there must be a path to legalization for every immigrant. Clinton is also an advocate for same sex marriage, and even participated in a gay pride parade in New York City. She believes that the assault and harassment towards the gay community is demeaning and must come to an end. Since Hillary Clinton believes in the same things as the New Directions party, she was chosen to be the leader of the party.
